Encaustic medium Transparent

Encaustic Medium is a blend of naturally bleached beeswax and damar resin and typically used for encaustic applications.

The encaustic medium forms the base of an encaustic painting, is luminous, instant drying, non-permeable and will last forever.

It can be used alone as a paint, for collage techniques or be mixed with color pigments or wax sticks. The damar resin raises the melting temperature so the wax is less susceptible to heat damage. It allows the Encaustic Medium to cure and harden, making it more durable and preventing blooming (a whitish haze that can appear on the surface of a painting). Resin also allows the Encaustic Medium to be polished to a high gloss and giving it more depth and intensity.
